Avoid common mistakes with HTTP practical demonstration
The following items are required to validate a domain using the HTTP Practical Demonstration or HTTP Practical Demonstration with unique filename DCV methods:
A DigiCert-generated random value, which is applicable to both methods
A DigiCert-generated unique filename, which is applicable to HTTP Practical Demonstration with a unique filename
The correct location to place the .txt file on your website, which is applicable to both methods:
http://[domain-name]/.well-known/pki-validation/fileauth.txt
http://[domain-name]/.well-known/pki-validation/{unique-filename}.txt
The URL serves two purposes. It contains the FQDN or IP address to validate and specifies the location of the .txt file containing the DigiCert-generated random value.
Place the file on the correct domain to avoid the most common HTTP Practical Demonstration configuration error
