Create a device group

To perform this action, you must have a user role that contains the Solution administrator permission.

To complete these steps, make sure you have:

  • A division created in DigiCert® Device Trust Manager. Each device group must be assigned to a division.

  • A user account with the Solution Administrator role. This is required to create and manage device groups.

  1. In the Device Trust Manager menu, go to Device management > Device groups.

  2. Select Create device group.

  3. On the Settings step:

    1. Enter a Device group name that reflects the organizational structure or purpose.

    2. Optionally, provide a Description.

    3. Select the Division from the dropdown list.

    4. Optionally, notify the users for device registration. The notified users receive an email with a link.

    5. Optionally, add Tags to assist in searching and organizing device groups. These tags display in the device groups table.

    6. Select up to three Inventory attributes that uniquely identify the devices in the group. For example, Device name, MAC address, and Serial number.

      By default, Device name is selected, but you can change this to other attributes like IP address or CPU ID.

      Notice

      What are these used for? These selected attributes are used to create an identity attribute for a device. This identity attribute of the device must be unique across your fleet to ensure reliable device identification and management. See Attributes to learn more.

    7. Optionally, add any Custom inventory attribute. You can create your inventory attributes by adding a key and configuring the values through the attributes.json file on the device.

    8. Optionally, add any Desired Attributes for metadata that will be applied across all devices in the group. For example, a key of EnvKey with a value of Production.

  4. Select Next to proceed to the Policy assignment page.

  5. Select Create device group.

    The newly created device group appears in the Device groups table with a Device group status as Active.
