Error 1705: Domain already exists in another account

Overview

When you try to add a domain to DigiCert® DNS, you may receive the following error:

Error 1705 — The domain you are trying to add already exists in another account.

This error occurs when the domain is already managed by a different DigiCert® DNS account. To keep domain ownership clear and avoid configuration conflicts, each domain can only belong to one account at a time.

Cause identification

There are a few reasons you might see this error:

  • The domain was previously added by another team in your organization

  • The domain belongs to a different business unit or partner account

  • The domain was imported automatically during a migration or account consolidation

  • A previous administrator added the domain under a different login

Resolution procedure

If you believe you should be able to manage this domain, please contact us to resolve the ownership conflict. Our team can help verify ownership and transfer the domain to the correct account if appropriate.

Information required

Please have the following information ready:

  • The domain name you are trying to add

  • Your DigiCert® DNS account details (organization and account ID, if known)

  • Proof of domain ownership (for example, ability to update DNS records, registrar account access, or WHOIS information)

Next steps

Once you contact us:

  1. Our support team will verify domain ownership.

  2. If ownership is confirmed, we will transfer the domain to your account or coordinate with the existing account holder.

  3. We will notify you once the domain has been successfully moved so you can complete setup.
