Agent installation requirements

Verify that your computer and network meet the minimum requirements before you run your first automation.

Network requirements

To configure an agent, the host names for the agent’s host device must be resolvable.

For example, to resolve the host name on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server, add it to /etc/hosts (for non-standard configurations).

The agent host must have access to the CertCentral cloud service and your targeted IP address.

CertCentral cloud service

Agents must communicate with CertCentral cloud to receive instructions to run automation and send inventory updates for newly automated certificates.

  • Outbound HTTPS (port 443)
For direct or proxy access communications with the CertCentral cloud service, an agent host must have access to the outbound HTTPS (port 443).
  • CertCentral cloud and ACME server IP address
For direct communication: If you are using a firewall, you need to open the firewall to IP range: ( and
For proxy communication: If you are using sensors as a proxy for agents to communicate with CC, you need to open the default communication port 8080 on the sensor host. Also, the agent host must have access to outbound port 8080.

Failing to do this blocks the agents from activation and sending automation information to CertCentral.

Target IP addresses

The firewall rules or Access Control Lists must allow the agent to reach the target IP addresses you want to automate.

Proxy server communications

Agents must be able to communicate with the CertCentral cloud service to receive instructions associated with certificate automation and to report on certificate inventory updates. See Install and activate an ACME automation agent using a proxy server for communications.
