If unsuccessful, it checks the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) or Certificate Revocation List (CRL) using the certificate’s Authority Information Access (AIA) extension and CRL distribution points. For expired certificates, the revocation status is not queried from OCSP or CRL.
