Validation levels in CertCentral

Important

As of February 24, 2026, the domain validation reuse period is limited to 199 days. Learn more about Domain validation requirements and reuse periods.

CertCentral supports three validation levels for public TLS/SSL certificates:

Domain Validation (DV)

DigiCert confirms that the requester controls the domain names on the certificate. No organization identity is verified. DV certificates are issued quickly and are appropriate for websites that require encryption without organizational identity.

Organization Validation (OV)

DigiCert confirms domain control and verifies the legal existence of the organization named in the certificate. OV certificates include verified organization identity and are appropriate for business websites and services.

Extended Validation (EV)

DigiCert performs the most thorough verification confirming domain control, verifying the organization's legal existence and operational status, and requiring approval from a verified representative of the organization. EV certificates provide the highest assurance level.
