Assign UltraDNS domains and automate domain validation
Make your UltraDNS domains visible to CertCentral. Then assign them to an organization so CertCentral can automatically validate them using the DNS TXT record DCV method. CertCentral revalidates your domains every seven days, so your validations stay current even when the reuse period drops to nine days. See Shortened TLS/SSL Certificate Validity: Frequently Asked Questions.
Note
Note: You can repeat each step as needed.
Before you begin
To assign UltraDNS domains and automate domain validation, you need:
Your UltraDNS account connected to CertCentral. See Connect UltraDNS to CertCentral.
The Administrator role in CertCentral.
Permission to manage domains in the UltraDNS Management Portal.
A list of domains to make visible to CertCentral.
The CertCentral organization to assign the domains to.
Test the process using one domain
Automating one domain helps you verify the UltraDNS connection and test the automatic domain validation process before you integrate tens, hundreds, or thousands of domains.
Step 1: Make your domains visible to CertCentral in UltraDNS
In your UltraDNS Management Portal, in the left menu, go to Domains.
To sign in, go to https://portal.ultradns.com/.
On the Domains page, do one of the following:
Make one domain visible to CertCentral.
In the domain's Visible to CertCentral column, use the toggle to turn domain visibility On.
Make multiple domains visible to CertCentral.
Select the box next to each domain.
In the Visible to CertCentral menu, select Enable visibility.
Your domains are now integrated with CertCentral and appear as Unassigned on the Integrate UltraDNS domains tab of the Domains page in CertCentral.
For more information, see Visible to CertCentral in the UltraDNS documentation.
Step 2: Assign new domains to an organization and automate domain validation
When you first make domains visible to CertCentral, they’re unassigned and not automated. To automate the domain validation, assign domains to an organization. CertCentral then automates the domain validation for those domains for that organization.
You can assign domains to one organization at a time. To assign domains to more organizations, see Step 3: Assign domains to another organization and automate domain validation.
In CertCentral, in the left menu, go to Certificates > Domains.
On the Domains page, on the Integrate UltraDNS domains tab, in the Assignment status menu, select Unassigned.
Select the domains you want to assign.
To select all domains on the page (up to 25), select the checkbox in the column header.
If there are more than 25 domains that match your filter, in the banner that appears, select the select all domains link.
Select Assign organization and automate.
On the Assign UltraDNS domains to organization and automate page, verify the number of domains selected.
Select the icon above the number of selected domains.
Select Assign domains to an organization.
In the Assign domains to an organization window, select the organization.
If you have seven or more organizations, use the Assign domains to an organization menu to select the organization.
Select Assign.
In the UltraDNS domains successfully assigned and ready to automate window, CertCentral shows you the number of domains assigned to the selected organization and when automatic domain validation starts.
Select the All domains tab.
Each integrated domain is assigned a domain ID and has a Pending validation status. At the top of the hour, CertCentral automatically validates your integrated domains for the first time and then revalidates them every seven days.
Step 3: Assign domains to another organization and automate domain validation
After you've automated the domain validation for new domains, you can assign those domains to another organization and automate domain validation for that organization. When assigning domains to another organization, you can also select the Unassigned domains you want to assign to that organization.
Notice
Note: Industry standards don't allow organizations to share domain validations. Automatic domain validation applies only to the organization the domains are assigned to.
In CertCentral, in the left menu, go to Certificates > Domains.
On the Domains page, on the Integrate UltraDNS domains tab, to select the domains you want to assign, do one of the following:
Specific domains (assigned and unassigned): Select the domains you want to assign.
If you've integrated more than 25 domains, you must repeat the process to assign domains on other pages.
All assigned domains
In the Assignment status menu, select Assigned.
Select the checkbox in the column header.
In the UltraDNS domains successfully assigned and ready to automate window, CertCentral shows you the number of domains assigned to the selected organization and when automatic domain validation starts
Select the All domains tab.
Each integrated domain is assigned a domain ID and has a Pending validation status. At the top of the hour, CertCentral automatically validates your integrated domains for the first time and then revalidates them every seven days.
