Avoid common mistakes with HTTP practical demonstration

To validate a domain using the HTTP Practical Demonstration or HTTP Practical Demonstration with unique filename DCV methods, you need the following items:

  1. A DigiCert-generated random value, which is applicable to both methods

  2. A DigiCert-generated unique filename, which is applicable to HTTP Practical Demonstration with unique filename only

  3. The correct location to place the .txt file on your website, which is applicable to both methods:

The URL serves two purposes. It contains the FQDN or IP address you want to validate, and it tells DigiCert where to find the .txt file containing the DigiCert-generated random value.

Place the file on the correct domain to avoid the most common HTTP Practical Demonstration configuration error
