Verify your identity

The identity verification process verifies you’re who you say you are. Your signature is an extension of who you are. You must verify your identity and link it to your signature before you can sign documents.

Remote identity verification (RIV)

The RIV method is recommended to verify your identity because it allows you to finish the procedure at your own convenience, using your device. DigiCert® has partnered with IDnow AutoIdent to remotely verify your identity.

Some locations require you to download the IDnow AutoIdent mobile application while others let you proceed with the mobile web version.

Before you begin

Before you start, make sure you meet these prerequisites:

Set up your DigiCert® Document Trust Manager account. See Set up your DigiCert ONE account.
Have your identification document.
Usually, your passport is the most acceptable form of identification document. In European nations that use NFC-enabled identification cards, you can also use your ID card. In the United States, you can also use your driver's license. See Document acceptance list for remote identity verification.
Find a well-lit location.
Use the camera on your smartphone to scan your identification document and verify you’re a live person.
Be ready to take a picture of yourself.
Take a selfie to validate you’re a live person.

Verify your identity

Example 1. Mobile application

Use these instructions to verify your identity remotely using IDnow AutoIdent mobile application:

Download the IDnow app to your smartphone. (Android or iOS)
1. Download the app to your smartphone.
  You can download the IDnow Autoldent app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. In Verify your identity email, find the validation code.
  The code is in two places, under Your validation code and in step 2. Verify your identity.
3. Open the IDnow Autoldent app. In the Ident-ID box, enter the validation code from the email and select Start.
4. Read through the Terms and Conditions and check I have read through the IDnow Privacy Policy and accept the IDnow Terms of Service. Then press Start Identification.
Verify your identification document.
Before verifying your identification, get your document ready.
1. Once ready, press OK, I'm ready!
2. Show the front of your ID:
  1. Hold your identification document so that the front is facing your smartphone camera.
  2. Position the front of the document in front of the camera in the zone indicated.
  3. Once ready, select OK I'm ready!
  4. Select the country that issued your document and press Select.
  5. Select the document type (for example, passport).
  6. Tilt your identification document up and down in front of the camera.
  7. If the app asks you to do so, turn on your smartphone's flashlight and move it over your document to show the holograms.
3. Show the back of your ID:
  1. Hold your identification document so that the back is facing your smartphone camera.
  2. Position the back of the document in front of the camera in the zone indicated.
  3. Once ready, select OK I'm ready!
  4. Tilt your identification document up and down in front of the camera.
  5. If the app asks you to do so, turn on your smartphone's flashlight and move it over your document to show the holograms.
Video selfie (verify your liveness):
1. Select Start.
2. Position your face in front of your smartphone camera in the oval zone.
3. Once ready, select I'm ready.
4. Select Finish.

Example 2. Web browser

Use these instructions to verify your identity remotely using web browser:

Read through the Terms and Conditions and check the boxes, then select Accept.
Before you start, read through the prerequisites, then select Continue.
Find your validation code (Ident-ID) and QR code on the new page.
Scan the QR code on your mobile device to continue the process on your mobile device (recommended). Or select desktop browser experience here to continue in your desktop. It’s recommended that you use mobile web version as it provides a higher chance of successfully finishing your identification.
Read through the Terms and Conditions and check the boxes. Then select Start Identification.
Get your documents ready, then select OK, I'm ready!

If you’re facing issues, request face-to-face verification.

Face-to-face (F2F)

The F2F method is an alternative to RIV that requires you to meet in person with an authorized professional who can verify that you’re who you say you are. The professionals who are authorized to verify your identity differ depending on where you’re located.

To request F2F identity verification:

Select the link in Verify your identity email.
On the Terms and Conditions page, find fill out this form to request a face-to-face identity verification and open the form link.

Identity verification for Swiss ZertES Certificates

For Swiss ZertES Regulated Certificates, you may use one of the following identity verification methods:

Remote Identity Validation through Autoident via Intrum.
In-person or face-to-face identity validation conducted by a DigiCert QuoVadis agent.
