Reuse domain control validation

Important

As of February 24, 2026, the domain validation reuse period is limited to 199 days. Learn more about Domain validation requirements and reuse periods.

CertCentral allows reuse of domain control validation when it remains within the allowed reuse period. Reusing valid domain validation reduces the need to repeat validation during certificate issuance and renewal.

Reuse applies when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The domain validation remains valid within the reuse period

  • The certificate request includes the same validated domain

  • Validation requirements for the certificate type are satisfied

Impact of expired domain validation

Expired domain validation does not affect certificates that have already been issued. However it affects the following:

  • Renewals and reissues: The order enters a pending state until domain validation is completed

  • Duplicate certificates: Duplicate certificates cannot be requested until domain validation is current. Reissue the certificate first to revalidate domains and then request the duplicate.

Account-type navigation

To review domain validation status and expiry dates:

  • Enterprise, Partner, and Legacy accounts: In the CertCentral menu, go to Certificates > Domains

  • Subscription accounts: In the CertCentral menu, go to Validation > Domains
