Method

When to use

Qualified signature/seal creation device (QSCD)

Required for Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) and Qualified Electronic Seals (QSeal). DigiCert generates the private key on a hardware token and ships it to you. After receiving the QSCD token, use the DigiCert Trust Assistant to unlock and install the certificate.

Provide certificate signing request (CSR)

For advanced electronic signatures and seals. You generate your own CSR and are responsible for securely storing the certificate and private key.

Identity verification

Before DigiCert can issue signing certificates, DigiCert must verify the identity of the subject individual using one of the following methods:

  • Remote Identity Verification (RIV): Complete identity validation at your convenience. Only available with some certificate issuance processes.

  • Face-to-face verificatiob: Meet in person with an authorized professional who can verify your identity. The professionals authorized to verify your identity differ depending on where you reside.
