Download and email issued certificates

After DigiCert issues your certificate, download it from CertCentral directly to the server with the matching private key where you generated the CSR.

Notice

When saving a certificate file, note the download location. You need the file path to install the certificate on your server. Code signing users provisioned to a DigiCert-provided token or KeyLocker do not need to download from CertCentral.

Download a certificate

  1. In the CertCentral main menu,

    • For Enterprise, Partner, and Legacy accounts: go to Certificates > Orders.

    • For Subscription accounts: go to My Digital Trust Products > Certificates.

  2. Filter the list by Issued status.

  3. In the Order # column, select the order number of the certificate you want to download.

  4. On the Order # details page, on the Details tab, in the Download Certificate As menu, select the certificate format and download the certificate:

    An additional format option is available for code signing and EV code signing certificates. Select Other FIPS 140-2 Level 2 Devices when installing the certificate on a FIPS 140-2 Level 2 HSM.

    • Best format for: downloads the certificate in the format recommended for the server platform or software selected when you ordered the certificate.

    • .crt (best for Apache/Linux): downloads the certificate in a .crt format best for Apache and Linux platforms.

    • .p7b (best for Microsoft and Java): downloads the certificate in a .p7b format best for Microsoft and Java platforms.

  5. Save the certificate file.

Notice

DigiCert also emails the issued certificate to the certificate contact on the order. If you need to resend the certificate issuance email, see Resend approval and certificate issuance emails.

Download certificate chain and additional formats

In the Download Certificate As menu, select More Options to access additional download formats, including combined certificate files and individual certificate files.

Download a combined certificate file

Platform-specific:

  1. In the Download Certificate window, under Combined Certificate Files, in the Server Platform menu, select the server on which you want to install the combined certificate file.

  2. Select Download and save the file.

File type-specific:

  1. In the Download Certificate window, under Combined Certificate Files, in the File Type menu, select the file format for the combined certificate file.

  2. Select Download and save the file.

Download an individual certificate file

In the Download Certificate window, under Individual Certificate Files, download each component separately:

  • TLS/SSL certificate: under Certificate, select the Download link and save the file.

  • Intermediate CA (ICA) certificate: under Intermediate Certificate, select the Download link and save the file.

  • Root certificate: under Root Certificate, select the Download link and save the file.

Email a certificate

After DigiCert issues your certificate, you can email it to specified addresses. Select the delivery format before sending.

  1. In the CertCentral main menu, go to Certificates > Orders.

  2. Select the order number for the certificate to email.

  3. In the Order # details pane, select Send Certificate.

  4. In the Send Certificate window, enter the email addresses in the Send Certificate To box. Use commas to separate multiple addresses.

  5. Under Send Certificate As, select the delivery format:

    • Attachment: sends the certificate as an email attachment.

    • Plain Text: sends the certificate as plain text in the body of the email.

    • Download Link: includes a link in the body of the email. The recipient selects the link to download the certificate. The recipient does not need a CertCentral account to access the download page.

  6. To add a custom message, select Append custom message and enter the message text.

  7. Select Send Certificate.
