Sign in the browser

Use your browser’s built-in signing tool to digitally sign a media file. The signature helps verify the file’s authenticity and integrity. If the file is modified without updating its provenance information, the signature becomes invalid.

To sign in the browser:

  1. In the Managers (managermenu.png) menu, select Content Trust.

  2. Select Dashboard > Sign in the browser.

  3. Upload your file by dragging it into the upload area or selecting Browse files to choose a file from your device.

  4. After the upload completes, view the file in the Uploaded media file section.

  5. In the Identity information section, choose an identity option:

    • Use verified organization identity (CAWG identity assertion): Uses an S/MIME BR certificate to attach a cryptographically verifiable organizational identity to the asset.

      NOTE: If you do not have a certificate, select Get S/MIME BR certificate and complete the enrolment process.

    • Basic attribution: Adds structured identity information to the media file without requiring a certificate. Validators can view this information, but it cannot be cryptographically verified.

  6. If you selected Use verified organization identity (CAWG identity assertion), select a certificate from the Certificate list.

  7. From the Role list, select the role that best describes your organization's relationship to the asset.

  8. In the Actions section, select all actions that apply to the media file:

    • Edited

    • Filter applied

    • Resized

  9. In the AI usage disclosure section, select This content was generated using an AI tool if AI was used to generate the media file.

  10. In the Source type section, optionally select the source type that best describes how the media file was created.

    Content digitized from a physical, non-transparent source, such as a print, document, or artwork.

    Content from real-world or digital sources that was modified by a person.

    Edited using Generative AI

    Existing content modified or enhanced using generative AI tools.

    Algorithmically-altered media

    Content modified through automated processing or algorithms that do not use generative AI.

    Digital creation

    Content created entirely in a digital environment rather than captured from the real world.

    Data-driven media

    Content generated from structured data, analytics, simulations, or similar data sources.

    Created using Generative AI

    Content generated primarily by a generative AI system from prompts or other inputs.

    Pure algorithmic media

    Content generated entirely through automated algorithms without direct real-world capture.

    Content captured from a computer, mobile device, or other digital screen.

    Virtual event recording

    A recording of a virtual event, meeting, webinar, livestream, or similar digital event.

    Composite of elements

    Content created by combining multiple source assets.

    Composite of captured elements

    Content created by combining multiple assets captured from real life.

    Composite including Generative AI elements

    Content created by combining generative AI elements with other content sources.


  11. If the uploaded media file does not already contain Content Credentials, the New creation section is displayed.

    Select This media file is a new creation if the uploaded media file is an original asset that was newly created and does not contain existing Content Credentials.

    When selected, the media file is identified as a newly created asset in the provenance information.

    This option is not displayed for media files that already contain Content Credentials.

  12. In the AI/ML training data section, specify whether the media file may be used for AI/ML training.

    • Select Yes to allow AI/ML usage.

    • Select No to prohibit AI/ML usage.

    By default, this option is set to No. Selecting Yes or No at the top level automatically sets all four categories to the same value. Use Advanced options to configure categories individually.

  13. To configure individual AI/ML usage permissions, select Advanced options and specify permissions for the following categories:

    • AI inference

    • Generative AI model training

    • Data mining and analytics

    • Non-generative AI/ML model training

    For each category, select one of the following:

    • Allowed: Usage is permitted.

    • Prohibited: Usage is not permitted.

    • Constrained: Usage is permitted only under specified conditions. Provide the applicable restrictions, approval requirements, or usage terms.

  14. Optional: In the EXIF metadata section, select Copy supported EXIF metadata into the media provenance to include supported camera and image metadata from the uploaded file, if available.

  15. Optional: In the External reference section, add information related to the media file that is stored outside the provenance record, such as licensing terms, extended metadata, production documentation, or other supporting records.

  16. Select Sign to continue, then select Submit.

  17. Select the Download icon to save the signed image.
