Learn how to replace, add, or delete a technical contact
When adding an organization to your account, you may also add a technical contact. Adding a technical contact isn’t required. You can only assign one technical contact to the organization.
What is a technical contact?
The technical contact is a person who works for the organization and whom we may contact for inquiries regarding certificate orders for the organization.
Depending on your account notification settings, the technical contact may also receive the issued certificate, reissued certificate, and expiring certificate emails.
Can I replace the technical contact assigned to the organization?
Yes, you can replace the technical contact from the organization's details page.
Do I need a technical contact?
Industry standards don’t require you to assign a technical contact to an organization. You may delete the technical contact if you want. Deleting the technical contact doesn’t affect the organization validation. Deleting a technical contact isn’t retroactive and doesn’t affect existing certificate orders, whether issued or pending.
If you delete the technical contact, they're not included on new certificate requests for the organization. They no longer receives emails for new certificate orders for the organization.
Before you begin
Items to note when replacing or adding a technical contact:
The new technical contact replaces the one currently assigned to the organization if a technical contact is being replaced.
The replacement and addition of a technical contact isn’t retroactive and doesn’t affect existing certificate orders, whether issued or pending.
Organization validation isn’t affected when replacing or adding a technical contact.
Replace the technical contact
Use these instructions to replace the currently assigned technical contact for the organization.
In CertCentral, go to Certificates > Organizations.
For CertCentral Subscriptions account, go to Validation > Organizations.
On the Organizations page, in the Name column, select the organization for which you’re deleting the technical contact.
On the organization's details page, in the Organization Contacts section, next to Technical contact (?), in the ellipsis menu (three dots), select Replace contact.
In the Replace contact window, do one of the following:
Option 1: Replace the technical contact with an existing contact
Select Existing contact.
In the Contacts menu, select the contact.
If needed, add a job title and phone number for the contact.
Select Replace.
Option 2: Replace the technical contact by adding a new contact
Select New contact.
Enter the contact's information: first and last name, job title, email address, and phone number.
Select Replace.
What's next
The next time you order a certificate that includes the technical contact's information, you should see the newly assigned technical contact's information.
Add a technical contact
Use these instructions to add a technical contact for the organization when there isn’t one assigned to it.
In CertCentral, go to Certificates > Organizations.
For CertCentral Subscriptions account, go to Validation > Organizations.
On the Organizations page, in the Name column, select the organization for which you’re adding the technical contact.
On the organization's details page, in the Organization Contacts section, select Add technical contact.
In the Replace contact window, do one of the following:
Option 1: Add an existing contact as the technical contact
Select Existing contact.
In the Contacts menu, select the contact.
If needed, add a job title and phone number for the contact.
Select Replace.
Option 2: Add a new contact as the technical contact
Select New contact.
Enter the contact's information: first and last name, job title, email address, and phone number.
Select Replace.
What's next
The next time you order a certificate that includes the technical contact's information, you should see the newly assigned technical contact's information.
Delete the technical contact
Use these instructions to delete the currently assigned technical contact for the organization.
In CertCentral, go to Certificates > Organizations.
For CertCentral Subscriptions account, go to Validation > Organizations.
On the Organizations page, in the Name column, select the organization for which you’re deleting the technical contact.
On the organization's details page, in the Organization Contacts section, next to Technical contact (?), in the ellipsis menu (three dots), select Delete contact.
In the Delete technical contact window, select Delete.
What's next
The next time you order a certificate that includes the technical contact's information, you shouldn’t see any technical contact information.
