Get an S/MIME BR certificate
An S/MIME Baseline Requirements (BR) certificate lets you create a verified organizational identity for signed content. With an S/MIME BR certificate, you can use a CAWG identity assertion to attach your organization's verified identity to an asset. Validators can then independently verify the asset's authenticity and source.
Select Get S/MIME BR certificate if your organization does not already have an S/MIME BR certificate. After DigiCert® issues the certificate, you can use it to create verified organizational identities and increase trust in your signed content.
Get an S/MIME BR Certificate:
In Sign in the browser page, select Get S/MIME BR certificate.
The Create certificate page opens.
In the Nickname field, enter a name that helps you identify the certificate.
From the Product list, select S/MIME Organization.
From the Nationality list, select the country that you want to display in the certificate.
From the Organization list, select the organization associated with the certificate.
Under Add authorized representative, choose one of the following options:
Existing representative – Select a representative that has already been added.
New representative – Add a new authorized representative.
If you selected Existing representative, choose a representative from the Representatives list.
Read the DigiCert® Master Services Agreement, then select the checkbox to indicate that you agree to the terms.
Select Create certificate.
After DigiCert® creates the certificate, it appears in the Certificates section, where you can view and manage it.
What's next?
Before DigiCert® can issue your certificate, complete the following tasks:
Complete domain validation
Complete domain validation for the email domains included in the order to demonstrate control of those domains.
For information about supported validation methods, see Supported DCV methods for validating the domains on certificate orders.
Complete organization validation
DigiCert® must verify that you are authorized to request a certificate on behalf of the organization.
To complete validation, DigiCert® calls a verified phone number and speaks with an organization or technical contact.
To provide organization consent for your certificate order, use one of the following methods:
Answer the validation phone call (preferred method)
This call typically occurs within 24 hours after you place the order.
After submitting your certificate order, notify the organization contact, technical contact, and company receptionist that you have ordered an S/MIME Organization certificate. Let them know that DigiCert® will call a verified phone number to complete organization validation.
Respond to the organization consent request
If a DigiCert® validation agent cannot reach an authorized contact at the verified phone number, they will leave a callback number and verification code.
Ensure that the organization or technical contact responds to the request and provides the verification code to complete validation.
