Prepare for migration
Preparing for migration ensures a smooth transition to CertCentral and reduces disruption during certificate lifecycle changes. This topic covers readiness and planning considerations before your CertCentral account is activated.
Gather information from your existing platform
Before migrating, collect the following from your current certificate platform:
A list of all active organizations: legal name, address, and contact information
A list of all domains associated with those organizations
A list of existing users and their current roles and permissions
A record of active certificates, their expiration dates, and their validation levels
Your current enrollment and renewal processes and any dependencies on those workflows

If you are migrating from QuoVadis, TrustLink, or another DigiCert legacy platform, your account representative can assist with exporting organization, domain, and contact data. Contact DigiCert Support before beginning migration if you need assistance with this export.
Assess the current certificate landscape
Review your certificate inventory to identify migration priorities:
Prioritize certificates expiring within 90 days. These require immediate attention after migration
Identify certificate types and validation levels in use (DV, OV, or EV): to confirm CertCentral supports equivalent products
Confirm which domains and organizations are associated with active certificates
A clear certificate inventory helps you sequence migration activities and avoid service interruptions.
Review validation and account readiness
Migration readiness depends on:
Completion of required organization or domain validation. All validation must be redone in CertCentral
Alignment between existing certificates and CertCentral workflows. Some legacy workflows may not have a direct equivalent
Availability of users, roles, and approvals in CertCentral. These must be configured before certificates can be requested
Validation readiness affects how quickly certificates are reissued or renewed after migration.
Plan migration timing and approach
Migration planning includes:
Aligning migration activities with certificate expiration timelines: do not begin migration when large volumes of certificates are approaching expiration simultaneously
Determining which certificates should be reissued versus renewed: reissuing gives you a clean start in CertCentral; renewing extends coverage on an existing order
Coordinating with internal teams or service owners: migrations that affect production systems require advance notice and change management approval
Planning reduces the risk of service interruption.
Decide on your certificate approach
Before migrating, decide whether to continue with the same certificate types from your previous platform or upgrade to premium options.
CertCentral provides OV and EV TLS certificates by default. Secure Site certificates are also available and include priority validation processing and enhanced Certificate Transparency monitoring.
Your account type and contract determine which products are available.
