Add a verified contact for an organization

Learn how to add a verified contact

When submitting your organization for specific validation types, you must add a verified contact for the validation type. You can add as many verified contacts as needed.

What is a verified contact?

A verified contact is an individual who represents an organization and is authorized to approve certificate orders on behalf of the organization. For example, an EV verified contact can approve extended validation (EV) TLS/SSL certificate orders on behalf of the organization. Learn more about verified contacts.

Before you begin

Items to note when adding a verified contact:

  • Organization validation isn't affected when you add a verified contact. However, if adding a validated and a yet-to-be validated verified contact to an order, DigiCert delays the approval email until all verified contacts are validated.

  • When adding a new verified contact, DigiCert contacts the organization directly to confirm the individual's name, email, phone number, job title, and authority.

  • DigiCert must validate the verified contact before they can approve certificate orders for the organization.

Add a verified contact

  1. In CertCentral, in the left menu, go to Certificates > Organizations.

For CertCentral Subscription accounts, in the left menu, go to Validation > Organizations.

  2. On the Organizations page, in the Name column, select the organization for which you’re adding a verified contact.

  3. On the organization’s details page, in the Verified Contacts section, select the Add Contact link.

Note: You don't see the Verified Contacts section if you haven’t submitted the organization for a validation type requiring a verified contact. Learn how to submit an organization for validation.

  4. In the Add Contact window, do one of the following:

Option 1: Add an existing contact as the verified contact

    1. Select Existing contact.

    2. In the Contacts menu, select the contact.

    3. If needed, add a job title and phone number for the contact.

    4. Select Add.

Option 2: Add a new contact as the verified contact

    1. Select New contact.*

    2. Enter the contact's information: first and last name, job title, email address, and phone number.

    3. Select Add.

*Note: You don't see the New contact option unless you’ve configured CertCentral to allow you to add non-CertCentral users as verified contacts. Learn more about adding non-CertCentral account users as verified contacts.

  5. Select what type of certificate orders you want the verified contact to approve. You can select as many types as needed:

    • EV – for approving EV TLS certificate orders

    • EV CS – for approving EV Code Signing certificate orders

    • CS – for approving Code Signing certificate orders

  6. When ready, select Submit for Validation.

What's next

DigiCert must now validate the verified contact for the selected validation types before the contact can approve any certificate orders.

The next time you order a certificate requiring verified contact approval, you should see the new verified contact. Then, you can decide whether to include the individual as a verified contact for the order. The caveat being that they only appear on the certificate types you’re validating them for.
