Divisions

Divisions allow you to segment and manage your operations more effectively. They act as "subtenants," enabling you to categorize and organize various customers, business units, or product lines into distinct groups. Each division functions within a separate, confined environment, which enhances security by restricting access and visibility to only those users or groups assigned to that division. This setup not only protects sensitive information but also simplifies management by clearly delineating boundaries within the organization, making it easier to control permissions and monitor activities.

Divisions also use a unique endpoint for device communications. These division-specific endpoints are dedicated addresses that devices use to communicate directly with the Rendezvous Service via MQTT. This setup bypasses the need for general routing, offering a streamlined and direct communication path. Think of it as a personal VIP entrance, ensuring that your requests are handled efficiently without unnecessary delays.

Key benefits

  • Enhanced security: Isolate different tenants to protect sensitive data.

  • Efficient management: Simplify operations by organizing resources and access within specific divisions.

  • Direct communication: Utilize tenant-specific endpoints for direct and efficient data transmission.

Example use case

Imagine a company, Acme Solutions, that provides IoT devices to different sectors, such as healthcare and retail. Each sector would be considered a subtenant. Acme Solutions would create a division for each of these sectors, ensuring that both operate completely independently within the same parent account. This separation allows for isolated management and data integrity for each division, maintaining a clear boundary between the operations and data of the different sectors.

In this setup, divisions help Acme Solutions manage their operations more effectively by keeping data and access control distinct for each subtenant, enhancing both security and organizational efficiency.
