Run automatic domain control validation checks
CertCentral periodically checks for validation artifacts when validation methods require DNS records or HTTP validation files. Automatic checks allow DigiCert to validate domains without a manual validation attempt.
During each check, DigiCert verifies that the required validation artifact is publicly accessible and matches the DigiCert-generated random value for the domain.
Automatic checks apply to the following validation methods:
DNS TXT record
DNS CNAME record
HTTP practical demonstration
ACME HTTP-01 challenge
ACME DNS-01 challenge
When automatic checks complete successfully:
The domain validation status updates and the reuse period resets.
Certificate issuance, renewal, and replacement proceed without interruption.
When automatic checks do not complete:
Confirm the following:
The validation artifact is publicly accessible
The artifact matches the value displayed in CertCentral
DNS propagation is complete for DNS-based methods
Port 80 is accessible for HTTP-based methods
The DigiCert-generated random value has not expired
If the random value has expired, retrieve a new value from the domain details page in CertCentral and update the validation artifact.
