Regenerate a client certificate

Regenerate a client certificate when a user loses their certificate or needs to replace it. Only an administrator can regenerate a client certificate for another user.

Before you begin

  • You must have Administrator access to regenerate client certificates.

  • Confirm the user has lost access to their certificate before regenerating. The existing certificate becomes invalid immediately after regeneration.

Important

If you are an administrator who has lost your own client certificate and no other administrator is available to regenerate it, contact DigiCert Support immediately.

Regenerate the certificate

  1. In the CertCentral main menu, go to Settings > Authentication Settings.

  2. Select the Two-factor authentication tab.

  3. Select Issued client certificates.

  4. Locate the user.

  5. Select Regenerate.

CertCentral sends the user an email with instructions to generate a new client certificate. The previously issued certificate is no longer valid. The user must generate and install the new certificate before they can sign in.
