Seat management

This topic explains options for managing seat licenses and seat records in DigiCert® Trust Lifecycle Manager.

Allocate seat licenses

Seat licenses in Trust Lifecycle Manager are allocated through business units:

  • For discovered or imported certificates, seat licenses are automatically allocated to business units during the discovery or import operations.

  • For all other certificate types, seat licenses must be allocated to the desired business units before enrolling certificates in them.

Create seat records

As seat licenses get consumed, seats records are created in each business unit. Each seat record links to the associated certificate(s) and stores relevant details such as the status, email, phone, etc.

  • For most certificates, the corresponding seat records get created automatically when the certificate is issued, discovered, or imported.

  • To assign enrollment codes or to exert more control over seat creation, you can create seat records before enrolling the associated certificates.

Ways to manage seats

Using the REST API

From the web console

  • Go to Account > Business units to manage seat license allocations for your business units.

  • Go to Account > Seats to view and manage the seat records created in your account.

  • You can monitor Seat usage from the Dashboard. Use the dropdown at top to filter by business unit or show all business units. Statistics include:

    • Allocated: The total number of seats allocated to the selected business unit.

    • Created: The number of seat records created from the business unit's seat allocation.

    • Consumed: The number of created seat records with a certificate associated with them.

    Tip

Select the number of Created seats to load those seat records into the Account > Seats page, where you can take further action on them.
