Device management

Some device types are:

  • A consumer device (such as a smart door lock)

  • An industrial device (such as a welding robot or pipeline flow meter)

  • A commercial device (such as a commercial barista machine or a building security camera)

  • A medical device (such as a glucose monitor)

Understand the Devices table

When you register a device, an entry will be created in the Devices table in Device Trust Manager > Device management > Devices.

The following table describes the components of the Devices table:

Column

Description

Device name

This column displays the alias of the registered device.

Job status

When applicable, this column displays the status of any corresponding job that is running for the device.

Device group

This column displays the associated device group.

Every registered device is associated with a device group.

Device state

This column displays the state of the device, which can be:

  • Registered

    • This state displays when all registering tasks for the device are complete.

    • A device in this state can authenticate with the rendezvous service using its unique bootstrap credential.

  • Provisioned

    • This state displays when all provisioning tasks for the device are complete, which includes obtaining additional secondary certificates (operational), software updates, and IoT platform onboarding.

  • Disabled

    • This state displays when a device has been manually disabled by a user. A disabled device cannot communicate with the Device Trust Manager platform.

Connection status

This column displays the device’s connection status with DigiCert ONE, which can be:

  • Not connected

    • This status displays when the device was disconnected from the Rendezvous Service MQTT endpoint, with a timestamp of the last connection.

  • Connected

    • This status displays when the device was connected to the Rendezvous Service MQTT endpoint.

Date registered

This column displays the date and time that the device was registered by the user.


Before you begin

To manage, monitor, and update a device, you must register the device with Device Trust Manager. A registered device allows you to search, filter, group, and obtain device connection information.
