Automatic domain control validation checks

DCV polling for DNS TXT, DNS CNAME, and HTTP practical demonstration/File DCV methods

Automatic domain control validation (DCV) checks, also called DCV polling, remove the need to run the validation checks yourself when using the DNS TXT, DNS CNAME, and HTTP practical demonstration DCV methods.

Once you've placed the fileauth.txt file on your domain or added the random value to your DNS TXT or DNS CNAME records, you don't need to worry about signing in to CertCentral to run the check yourself. We will run the DCV check automatically. Although you can still run a manual check when needed.

DCV polling cadence

DCV polling begins immediately and runs for ten days after you submit your public SSL/TLS certificate order, submit a domain for prevalidation, or change the DCV method for a domain:

  • Interval 1—Every one minute for the first 15 minutes

  • Interval 2—Every five minutes for an hour

  • Interval 3—Every fifteen minutes for one day

  • Interval 4—Every hour for 10 days*

*After Interval 4, we stop checking. You'll need to run the check manually if you haven't placed the .txt file on your domain or added the random value to your DNS TXT or DNS CNAME records by the end of the ten days. Manually running the check also restarts the DCV polling for another ten days.
